Eastleigh started the game well and created some great chances. However, Maidstone’s defence remained strong and they quickly petered out the strong start from the Spitfires.
Then, in the 29th minute, Eastleigh finnaly got the breakthrough they deserved. Luke Coulson picked the ball up just outside the box, and took the ball round 3 defenders before powering the ball into the back of the net.
Then, 10 minutes later, Eastleigh doubled their lead thanks to Ryan Bird. The ball was driven into the 6 yard area, and Bird was there to smack the ball into the net.
HALF TIME-Eastleigh 2-0 Maidstone Utd
Early on in the second half, Eastleigh centre back Reda Johnson picked up a yellow card after he tripped up former spitfire Yemi Odubade. Johnson, who was one of Eastleigh’s many summer signings, was then made to regret that booking after he picked up his second yellow, and therefore sent off, for a foul on the Maidstone winger.
Because of the red card, Eastleigh then brought on David Pipe just to solidify the back four. However, 3 minutes after the substitution, Luke Coulson scored his second of the night to wrap up the 3 points for the Spitfires. Coulson again picked the ball up outside the penalty area, before running past a couple of defenders and curling the ball into the back of the net.
A fantastic three points for Eastleigh and one that sees them move up to 5th in the Vanarama National League!
