Born in Droylsden, Greater Manchester, Jason Taylor began his career as a trainee at Oldham Athletic in October 2005. However, he made no appearances for Oldham before joining Stockport County on loan in March 2006. He signed a permanent two-year contract with Stockport County in August 2006 and then signed a new two-year in January 2007. He made 51 league and cup appearances for Stockport in the 2006–2007 season, and won the club’s Young Player of the Year award at the end of the season.
Jason then moved to Rotherham United in 2009 on a free transfer and he made his debut for them in a 1-0 win against AFC Bournemouth. Taylor then scored his first goal for The Millers during a 3-2 win over Morecambe. In total, Jason made 117 appearances for Rotherham, scoring 10 goals.
He then joined Rochdale in 2009 for a season-long loan. He made 23 appearances for the Dale, scoring once against Macclesfield.
He then moved to Cheltenham Town in 2013 and made his debut in a 2-1 victory over Torquay United. In total, he made 65 appearances for The Robins, scoring twice.
In 2015, Jason joined Northampton Town on a loan deal. He made 46 appearances for The Cobblers, scoring once.
Taylor then joined Eastleigh in the 2016 summer transfer window, after leaving Northampton Town by mutual consent.
